Learn how to setup WMI filters to narrow down the scope of devices which group policy objects get applied. In this example, I show you how to create a WMI filter, assign it to a group policy object, and then link the group policy object to the organisation.

Creating a WMI filter in Group Policy Management
Open Group Policy Management
Navigate to Forest > Domains > Local domain > WMI Filters
Right-click WMI Filters and press New.
Give your WMI filter a name and a description.
Press Add at the right side of the wizard.
Add your WMI filter query into the query box and then press OK.
Press Save to save and create your WMI filter.
Applying a WMI filter to a Group Policy Object
Select the Group Policy Object you want to apply the filter to.
Under Scope, scroll to the very bottom of the page, and then Under WMI Filtering, select the correct filter from the drop down menu.
The WMI filter is now appied to that group policy object.
Note: You still need to link the group policy object to an organisational unit before it will apply.
